Lombok Island (population in 2001 : 2,722,123 inhabitants) is an island in the Lesser Sunda Islands or Nusa Tenggara are separated by the Lombok Strait of Bali in Sebelat Alas Strait in the west and east of Sumbawa . The island is approximately spherical with a sort of " tail " on the southwest side length of approximately 70 km . This island area reaching 5,435 km² , placing it at rank 108 of the list of islands is based on the extent of the world. The main town on the island is the city of Mataram .
Lombok Strait marks the limit of the flora and fauna of Asia .
